What do you do if Valentine's Day isn't your thing? Reinvent it!
Valentine’s Day has never been my favorite holiday, but this year I wanted to see if there was a way to reinvent it. I decided it would be a great opportunity to do a playful test shoot, as well as a chance to bring my new team members to work together on a project. Initially I thought I might use vintage valentine food puns for inspiration, but after some brainstorming with my intern, Keri, I decided it would be even more fun to replace traditional gifts with food in each image.
We worked quickly, and the entire shoot was conceived, planned, and shot within a week. I was incredibly lucky that Carla Buerkle, an incredible food stylist, was available at the last minute to work with us to create these images.
As with all shoots, there was plenty of problem solving we needed to do on set, and I’m super proud of my team that we were able to manage all of the images in our shot list. I’m also very grateful to my photo assistant, and good-natured hand model, Asaeda, who did a bit of good old fashioned contortion for our shot. He managed to himself in just the right spot under the set to have his hand peeking out through the valentine box.
